AP Art (Studio/Drawing)
This blog is to give you a little insight on what it is to be an Advanced Placement Art Student.

We strongly encourage interested AP Art students to think long and hard about the commitment, as that is what it is.
*A student in AP Art must be making art ALL THE TIME. That means in and out of school. Does your life allow for such time? Are you that dedicated?
*AP Art is not like another AP class, where you study for a test. You must have experience under your belt so you are acting like an Artist, not like a Student.
*I can not "groom" you for the test. You must make as much work as possible so you can submit your very best work in order to score as high as you can.
*You will create work from May to April, with the goal being to submit a portfolio to the College Board on the AP "test" day for reading.
*This portfolio consists of 3 parts-
1- Quality. We mail in 5 of your strongest pieces
2- Range of Approaches- We digitally upload 12 pieces that show breadth in a variety of ways, either through the Elements & Principles or Drawing Principles
3- Concentration- We digitally upload 12 pieces that show investigation of an idea. These pieces show your thinking through a theme or problem and the evolution of your work.
That means 24 to 29 pieces of quality art must be provided for the College Board. If you are to make these pieces only during your AP year, you should average a piece a week at least. And that would be if you submitted everything you make, which we don't recommend.

A student exploring taking AP Art should be:
someone who wants to be challenged to work like an artist.
someone who enjoys making art all of the time
someone who thinks the AP score can help them in college (test out of Design 101 or basic Drawing)
someone who can handle multiple responsibilities at once
AP Art runs concurrent with Portfolio Art and Photo or Design Production, so you will have the same community, shows and experiences as a Portfolio artist (single artist showcases, Anomoly, Odyssey, etc).
We are here to support and guide you on this journey! Be a part of an elite group of AP Artists!
